Vision:
At Crockham Hill CE Primary School, our geography curriculum aims to inspire curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Through carefully sequenced learning, pupils develop a deepening understanding of the Earth’s physical features, human environments and the relationships between people and places. Geography provides children with the knowledge and skills to explore, question and make sense of the world around them, from their immediate local area to the wider global community.
Our curriculum is underpinned by six key geographical concepts: location, place, navigation, human geography, physical features & processes and fieldwork. These golden threads run throughout pupils’ learning and enable them to build knowledge progressively, make connections across topics and develop a coherent understanding of geographical ideas over time.
Pupils explore a wide range of environments, cultures and landscapes through the study of both local and global locations. Fieldwork and enquiry play an important role in enabling children to investigate geographical questions and develop analytical thinking. Through this learning, pupils gain an appreciation of environmental challenges and develop a sense of responsibility for caring for the planet. Ultimately, we aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills and perspectives needed to become informed and responsible global citizens.
