Brambletye Football Tournament
Friday 15th November Years 3 and 4
Played on a damp and gloomy afternoon the conditions were a real challenge. In addition, it was our first tournament on Astro – turf.
In the first match we played St Peters and by half – time despite dominating possession incredibly we were 2-0 down. A change of players and positions saw an amazing fight back with us winning 3-2. Music from the Great Escape was suddenly an ear-worm for me.
Our second game was against the hosts A – Team. We were up against “A school of Giants.” Although small in stature we were the far better team in a tight 0-0 draw.
In our third game we had a comfortable 3-0 over Baldwins Hill and finished top of our group on goals scored.
The semi – final was another close affair 0-0, against Halsford Park, a large two form entry school in East Grinstead. Unlike England we managed a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win. My ear – worm was now under pressure.
In near darkness we played the host's A – team again. We were 1-0 down at half – time and then pressed for an equaliser being caught out on the break. Brambletye deserved their 2-0 win as they were the better team in the final. However, my final ear – worm of the day was “Simply the best by Tina Turner,” as the boys played their hearts out and I am always proud of how our school teams always do their best.
