Design and Technology
Design and Technology at Crockham Hill:
Subject Leader: Mrs G Hutchinson
Link Governor: Mrs S Dodson
Vision:
‘The best way to predict the future is to design it’
Buckminster Fuller, American engineer and inventor.
At Crockham Hill, our Design and Technology curriculum is designed to prepare children for an increasingly technological world. We aim to plan engaging, relevant, high-quality skills-focused projects for each year group from Reception to Year 6, which will inspire our children to become the engineers, designers, chefs and architects of the future. They experience working as individuals and as part of a team to design and make real products, with real purpose.
Our DT curriculum provides children with opportunities to: research past and present technology; explore and investigate existing products; represent and develop their ideas; make a product and then evaluate their work in order to adapt and improve it. Skills are taught progressively to ensure that all children are able to practice and develop these skills as they move through the school.
We aim for our DT lessons to be largely practical, providing children with the opportunity to work with their hands and bring what they have learned in other areas of the curriculum, particularly maths and science, to solve problems with creativity and purpose – giving them a real context for learning.
