Subject Leader: Mrs N Rose
Link Governor: Mrs R Holt
Vision:
At Crockham Hill, our over-arching aim is to teach the children the skills of literacy and language to enable them to become life-long learners. We believe that the spoken and written word are vital for communication and understanding and we promote a love of reading for pleasure at every opportunity. Our English curriculum is designed to foster a love a reading, writing and speaking and listening, preparing our pupils to be successful and socially responsible members of society.
We have created a carefully crafted, broad and balanced curriculum which underpins the learning of all aspects of English. Skills and knowledge are presented in a clear pathway, ensuring progression and consolidation appropriately. Wherever possible, our topic based learning promotes the transference of skills across all areas of the curriculum underpinned by inclusive practice which allows all pupils to strive to achieve their goals.
We strongly believe that our provision promotes ‘high standards of language and literacy by equipping pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written word, and to develop their love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment.’ (National Curriculum 2014)

World Book Day - 7th March 2024
We had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day this week. We arrived in school either dressed as our favourite book characters or in comfy pyjamas, ready to curl up with a book! We were treated to a visit from author Ian MacDonald who led an assembly about how a book is published and then he spent time working with each class. So many exciting writing ideas were generated! Well done to everyone and huge thank to our wonderful PTA for funding the visit. The day was finished with a bedtime story session, complete with hot chocolate and biscuits. Thank you to Mrs Higgs, Mrs Lakin-Hall and Mrs de Frond for sharing some wonderful stories.
Creative Writing Day - March 2023
The Aliens have Landed!!!
What an exciting day! The children came into school with nothing unusual to be seen! By 10am, an alien spaceship had crashed landed in the Rainbow Theatre! Where had they come from? Where they going? Why could we see alien goo disappearing into the woods?
The children were completely immersed in the landing and had a wonderful day crafting some fabulous pieces of writing - from Wanted Posters to news reports. Well done everyone - what a super day!
