P.E. and Sports Grant

This funding is provided to each school to fund improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of our pupils so that they can develop healthy lifestyles. We are required to report on how we use these funds and the difference made to P.E. and Sport in our school as a result.

Our achievements are recognised by gaining the Gold Sports Mark in 2018-19 and a Gold Mark (up to March 2020) for 2019-20.

We promote fitness for all by encouraging children to join lunchtime and after school clubs. In lessons children are supported to improve their skills and fitness. We also participate in sporting events which provide exposure to competitive challenge. Despite having only twenty children in each year group (80 children in the whole of Key Stage 2) we continue to achieve excellent results in competitive sports.

Last year there were limitations with regard to what we could offer, due to covid, but throughout the year we ran a range of afterschool sports clubs.  These included, football, netball, cross – country, athletics, multi – sports and cricket.  We also held two inter – house sports tournaments in the summer, handball and cricket.  It is our aim to hold an inter – house sports tournament every term this year.  Inter – school sports will be back on the agenda and we hope to build on the huge successes that the school enjoyed in 2018 – 2020.  We are lucky to have both talented and enthusiastic children at Crockham Hill.

Over the last year we have significantly upgraded the resources we have available.  We also continued to make Forest Schools available to our year 2’s and 3’s. Year 5 had the opportunity to participate in the Hever triathlon taster.  Swimming will take place this year for all of our Key Stage 2 children.

Towards the end of term 1 our year 5 sports leaders will start running lunch time sports clubs where every child will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities and achieve “Personal Bests.” Sport is not about being the best but participating, having fun and fulfilling your own individual potential.

In the Autumn term cross – country club will be available for all children and football and netball for our older children.  However, we will be offering a wider range of clubs this year.

It was unfortunate that Chris Cook was not able to attend our Olympic week due to Covid but we hope to have the Olympic, Commonwealth and World medallist here for a workshop in the coming year.
