Centaur Class Year 4 am only

Dear Parents,

Welcome back! The children are really enjoying our work on the Lion King.  They have been writing some amazing descriptive pieces.  It is great to see so many children participating in our sports clubs and I can only apologise for the muddy clothing after yesterdays running club.  It was good fun though.  Ours stars of the week for week 1, voted for by the children, were Aneira and Evelyn.  James, Bailey and Bella also received a special class award.  I am really impressed with the degree of independence being shown by the children so quickly after a two week break.  Some parents asked for information on how we complete multiplication and division sums.  I hope the information sheet I sent home was of benefit.

Best wishes

Dear Parents,

We have now finished our maths units on multiplication and division and this week the children were introduced to learning about area.  I'd like to thank you for encouraging the children with their homework.  They all achieved wonderful results in our end of unit maths test and have been tackling some very challenging extensions. In English we have been story - mapping and using drama to rehearse the story of the Lion King.  The children will be planning and  writing their own versions of the story next week.  Our class stars of the week in Week 2 were Evie and Izzy.  In Week 3 Sophia and Ava were successful.  Many other children have received special awards from me for hard work, effort or successfully demonstrating one of our four values.  We have been practising our times tables twice weekly in school.  A few children would benefit from some additional work at home.

Dear Parents,

Firstly I would like to thank you for encouraging the children to read at home and the quality of many of their maths homework.  I don't set formal homework in the holidays but please ask the children to continue to read regularly.  Please also accept my thanks for all the cards and presents on my birthday.  The children have been working hard with developing their knowledge of fractions.  We have covered equivalent fractions and adding two and three fractions this week.  The children have also found missing fractions on a number line.  In English this week our main focus has been on spelling, punctuation and grammar as well as a reading comprehension.  All children are progressing at a good rate.  Last week Orla and Eloise were voted by the children as our stars of the week and several other children have obtained special teacher awards.  I wish you all a fantastic half - term break.

Best wishes

Dear Parents,

I can't believe how quickly the weeks are going.  We finished fractions this week and every child did amazingly well on their end of unit test.  Also, our times tables test saw some fantastic scores.  All children have improved by at least 25% since the start of the year.  The children have enjoyed our work on Fantastic Mr Fox which I have to say is in my top three Roald Dahl books.  We will continue reading this next week as well as reading one of his revolting rhymes each day.  Last week we have also looked at different forms of advertising and the children produced an advert for a holiday brochure persuading people to visit Africa.  Some great emotive language was used.  During the last two weeks, Aneira, Isabelle, Lydia and Erin have been voted as our stars of the week.  Congratulations to those children and the others who have received a special award from me.  I am just grateful that I was not the teacher who had to endure the sludge challenge this week!

Have a great weekend.

Best wishes
